Inspiring Deaf Children Through Books

Are you D(d)eaf - or perhaps you know someone who is D(d)eaf - who struggles with mental health issues?

Perhaps you are in the publishing industry?

The sad fact is that statistically Deaf people have higher levels of mental health problems than the general population (Source Gov.uk 2017 - latest stats).

Here are TWO other things you may not know.

👉 90% of Deaf children are born to hearing parents (British Deaf Association 2024)
👉 There is no Government funding in place for parents of D(d)eaf children to learn British Sign Language

It means that some parents are not able to communicate with their children.

Throughout my life, I have lived with profound deafness.

My family and I still faced difficulties communicating effectively. They are not fully proficient in British Sign Language (BSL), and I struggle to convey my thoughts using written notes.

Dealing with anger issues and emotional problems has been a significant challenge for me. But writing my own thoughts down in a journal has really helped.

✳️ For Deaf Children & Families

That’s why I have created the Deaf Journal which has been designed to help you or someone you know who is Deaf.

It’s not only a place to write things down - there are also positive words and pictures to colour in (who doesn’t find colouring therapeutic?). There will be other products in the Deaf Journal range launching soon. These will also remind Deaf people that they are not on their own and that everyone has their own talents.

✳️ For The Publishing Industry

👍 I also present books in BSL for younger Deaf children (many Deaf people find English hard and prefer to see someone signing).

I would be delighted to meet you, we can have an interpreter with us.
